Questions, answered
I've never cooked Indian food — is this actually easy?
Yes. Every tin comes with an authentic Mrs Balbir Singh recipe card that walks you through it step by step. Thousands of first-time cooks have made restaurant-quality curries with it — no experience needed.
I already cook Indian food — is this still for me?
Absolutely — you're exactly who we make these for. If you already cook, you know great Indian food lives and dies by the spices: the highest grade ones, freshly toasted, ground and balanced in the correct proportions. That's the slow, exacting part — and it's the part we've done for you, every blend made to Mrs Balbir Singh's original recipes. You get the depth you'd spend hours building, in minutes, with the same result every time — then season and make it your own, exactly as you would.
Is it very spicy?
It's about flavour, not heat. Butter Chicken is rich and mild, and the recipe card lets you dial the chilli up or down to taste. Indian food is defined by region and balance, not a heat scale.
I usually order this from the takeaway — how is this different?
It's the real thing, made properly at home: freshly roasted, ground and blended spices, with no jars, no base gravy and no shortcuts. Most people tell us it's better than their Friday takeaway.
Do I need a cupboard full of other spices?
No. One tin replaces the 10–20 spices you'd otherwise buy. Add a few fresh ingredients from the recipe card and you're done.
How many servings does a tin make, and how should I store it?
Each tin makes 12+ servings. Store it closed in a cool, dark place, and check the best-before date on the tin base.

Then comes the best part — the faces around the table, the second helpings, the repeated requests… and the confidence to know you can easily make this at the drop of a hat. Or, like many of our customers do, batch cook or meal prep on a weekend for weeks' worth of memorable curry nights.
The recipes that started it all
The methods that made Mrs Balbir Singh the Godmother of Indian Cookery — first in her 1961 Indian Cookery, now on a recipe card that comes with every tin, so it comes out right the very first time.

One flat note — or the whole symphony?
The takeaway, jar and microwave meal hit the same flat note — chilli, tomato or cream. Real Indian food is highly nuanced, needing a specific blend and method for every dish.
One flat note
Muddy shades of reddish beige — one base gravy, every dish.
A true symphony of flavours
Cooking with spices — vibrant, layered and magically alchemic.
