Legend has it that this "Sikandari Raan" was first prepared for Alexander the Great’s wedding feast when he married Roxanne, daughter of Oxyartes, a king of the Hindu Kush region, which Alexander (or Sikandar as he was known in India) had just conquered. This special leg of lamb preparation was also eaten at the battlefield banquet held to celebrate the legendary friendship of the great conqueror with King Paurava of Takshila. Ever since, eating raan has become a symbol of friendship and binding ties.
Our top grade spices are expertly sourced, freshly-ground, roasted and blended in small artisanal batches. Packed in our new larger tins for our grill and roast blends.
I had my sons and their wives staying for 4days and wanted a special Sunday dinner so opted for Roast Lamb Raan. My daughter in Law is Punjabi so who best to try it out on. After marinating overnight it was so tender and flavoursome and devoured by everyone at the table. I highly recommend this.
We served this on Easter Sunday and everyone raved about it. Even one of the kids who never eats lamb had some and loved it. It's simple to prepare and the flavours and cooking method is perfect. Another Mrs Balibir Singh win!
Made the roast leg of lamb raan last week- easy to follow recipe and everyone thoroughly raved about it. Cooked it slightly longer but on a lower temperature which worked really well.
This lamb tasted delicious, so easy to prepare and just put in the oven, came out looking like I had spent hours on it. The meat was so tender. I used a bigger joint so had leftovers which I used in the Kashmiri Roghan Josh, the next day. 2 amazing dishes
What can I say about this wonderful dish!!!
I have tried it on mutton as well as lamb beautiful on all counts!
Would most definitely recommend the recipe we had it for Easter Sunday and everyone wanted more!
